La Fontana International Schools: Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
1. Policy Statement
La Fontana International Schools is committed to providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment for every child. We have a zero-tolerance approach to harm and abuse. Our policy is aligned with the Kenyan Children’s Act.
2. Principles
- The child’s welfare is the paramount consideration.
- All children, without exception, have the right to protection from abuse.
- All staff and volunteers have a responsibility to report safeguarding concerns.
3. Roles and Responsibilities
- The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
- The Deputy DSL
- All staff receive regular safeguarding training.
4. Types of Abuse
We are vigilant to signs of: Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation.
5. Reporting Procedure
Any staff member or volunteer who has a concern about a child’s welfare must:
- Listen to and reassure the child.
- Record the concern factually and immediately using the school’s incident form.
- Report immediately to the DSL.
The DSL will decide on the next steps, which may include a referral to child protection services or the police.
6. Safer Recruitment
We employ rigorous safer recruitment practices, including background checks (Certificate of Good Conduct) for all staff.
