La Fontana International Schools: Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy

1. Policy Statement
La Fontana International Schools is committed to providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment for every child. We have a zero-tolerance approach to harm and abuse. Our policy is aligned with the Kenyan Children’s Act.

2. Principles

  • The child’s welfare is the paramount consideration.
  • All children, without exception, have the right to protection from abuse.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility to report safeguarding concerns.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • The Deputy DSL
  • All staff receive regular safeguarding training.

4. Types of Abuse
We are vigilant to signs of: Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation.

5. Reporting Procedure
Any staff member or volunteer who has a concern about a child’s welfare must:

  1. Listen to and reassure the child.
  2. Record the concern factually and immediately using the school’s incident form.
  3. Report immediately to the DSL.
The DSL will decide on the next steps, which may include a referral to child protection services or the police.

6. Safer Recruitment
We employ rigorous safer recruitment practices, including background checks (Certificate of Good Conduct) for all staff.
